Contrary to popular belief, I still do think of this blog occasionally. My excuse is always that I've been busy, but I am always busy. There is always somewhere to go, someplace to see, someone to visit, and especially with recent developments, I'm living in the fast-lane now more than ever. We'll start from the beginning, though, especially as it's been more than a month since a post.

christmas
the tacky danish way |
So, Christmas happened. Christmas in Denmark is celebrated on December 24th, which is when all presents are opened and there are shenanigans and the person who finds the almond in the rice dish wins another present. Christmas wasn't very eventful for me; it was really family-oriented, which was awkward, because no matter how well I get along, this still isn't my real family. The day after was my host mother's birthday, and after the birthday I went to Jomfru Ane Gade for some more Christmas fun time.
After Christmas came the New Year, which Denmark celebrates a little more vigorously than the States. There was a party I was supposed to attend, but the Most Important Person in Denmark and I decided against, staying in instead and cooking and setting off a few fireworks on our own terms. I made macaroni and cheese, an exotic dish that is never seen here (and God, do I miss it) and we also had some fabulous beef dish with baked potatoes and sauce and a little champagne afterwards. It was tame, but I don't wish I'd gone to the party; I've never really done the "party thing."
Speaking of "party things" though, I went to visit Jenny in Aarhus for her nineteenth birthday party. Nickolai and I bought her some perfume and from there, I got to go visit my sister again for the first time in a longer time than I like. I was also quickly reminded that white people are not very good at eating with chopsticks.

School's started up again, and it's harder than ever to go to class. It's really difficult to go when the teachers don't know how to include me and I don't speak enough of the language to explain Newton's Laws of Motion in Danish. I do what I can, when I can, but I hate group work because I'm always scared I'm going to be a burden on everyone involved. I go on break again soon, though, starting Friday; I'll go to town with some people and then on Saturday or Monday (we're not sure which, yet) I'll head off to Copenhagen with my best friend in all of Scandinavia. I love Nordjylland, but I'll be happy to get away for a while.
Until next time, and hopefully I'll be more diligent in updating my blog. :P
